Draw a stickman

Draw a Stickman is a creative interactive project that uses strictly Javascript (for those nerds who care). It's pretty self-explanatory and definitely the cutest thing ever.

Wold Map of Occupy protests

View Occupy Wall Street protests around the world in a larger map

At work today I pitched creating a map of all the "Occupy Wall Street" conflicts that have been occurring around the world. I've been doing my best to keep up with the current events, but if my research showed me anything, it is that there are a lot more cities and countries participating than I knew! That said, I was equally surprised at some countries who had not participated--like India.

Of course, it's difficult to get accurate numbers of crowds and as such, I'm sure I'm missing quite a few protests, but I sincerely hope my initial attempt at starting this map is to your liking. When I have more time, I plan to go in and update when each Occupy protest began, how many were estimated to have participated, how many have been arrested, injured, etc.

Finally, since many are spread out around the country (and the world!), I'd love to hear if you have participated in any of the U.S. (or international) protests and what your thoughts have been.

There is chaos in your town!

The production company B-Reel made a cool interactive using Google Maps where you can type in your home address and watch a robot come create a State of Chaos. On a related note, if you haven't yet played with Arcade Fire's interactive music video for Wilderness Downtown, get involved (it's also made by B-Reel!).

Steve Jobs

I learned about Jobs passing via text from my friend. Even though I knew Jobs had been battling cancer for a while, his death still seemed sudden and unexpected to me. I was overcome and felt tears creep to my eyes.

Later, it kind of puzzled me that I would have such an emotional reaction over a man whom I had never met in my life. But then I realized it was grief over the passing of a true visionary--a man whom, without him, this world would be a very different place.

The media covered him very well, as they had had time to prepare for his obituary, and I was able to learn in addition to reminisce about this amazing man.

Because I'm a design geek, one of my favourite articles I read talked about how he elevated the role of designers to be as important as engineers.

Here's to you, Steve Jobs.

And, if you haven't seen it yet, Job's 2005 commencement speech for Stanford.

You will be sorely missed.
