Volcano!

Volcanoes have always fascinated me. When Eyjafjallajökull blew, there were really some stunning images that emerged. Not only was the destruction and environmental (and societal, for that matter) impact impressive, so was the technology available to record the historic eruption.

On Jan. 6, 2011, a NASA satellite snapped a shot of the Russian volcano, Kizimen, erupting. It had been gently erupting since New Years Eve. The image is below as well as a couple other breathtaking images of various volcanoes erupting as shot from space. The original article and photo gallery is here.
