Condition ONE

Condition ONE is an application currently in development for the iPad that will combine photography and videography in an interactive fashion “to create a new language that is so immersive, that it will shake viewers out of their numbness to traditional media and provide them a powerful emotional experience.” They have plans to develop compatible apps for all Android-based tablets in the near future.

The app is targeted for stories that provide first-hand experiences, such as adventure travel, war activity and breaking news events.

From the team: “Condition ONE sees a quickly approaching future where a network of the best filmmakers and journalists around the world transmit what they are witnessing in front of their lenses directly to mobile devices, allowing viewers to be immersed in those same experiences, bypassing the traditional filters and gatekeepers.”

This is absolutely genius. It combines the immediacy and intimacy of homemade videos, the likes of which we see posted to YouTube that go viral and that news broadcasts are increasingly using as part of their coverage + the credibility of professionally trained journalists + technology. There is no doubt in my mind this company will succeed and pave the way for a new way of reporting. I wonder if they're hiring....
